FRANCISCUS.
Editorial Design and Typography Design.
For the Memorial Franciscus book, commissioned for senior officials of the Vatican, we developed a publication that serves both as a commemorative object and a tribute. At the core of the project is a custom typeface inspired directly by Pope Francis’s own handwriting carefully studied, abstracted, and refined to preserve its humility, warmth, and human cadence while ensuring editorial clarity and structural consistency.
The visual identity is grounded in a muted palette of beiges and browns, established as the branding language of the organization. Dedicated to supporting and accompanying elderly people, the institution’s mission informed the emotional direction of the book. Carefully curated black-and-white photography was selected to evoke nostalgia, dignity, and tenderness reinforcing themes of memory, legacy, and care. The typographic system pairs the custom script with a restrained serif for extended reading, creating a dialogue between personal gesture and institutional voice. A refined grid, generous margins, and production details elevate the publication to a timeless object. The result is a cohesive and contemplative piece that translates Pope Francis’s spirit into a lasting visual and typographic language aligned with the organization’s humanitarian purpose.
